What H5 and the app each are
H5 is the browser version. You open a web address on your phone or computer, and there's no file to download.
The app is installed on your phone. On Android that's an APK file installed outside the Play Store. On iPhone and iPad it isn't a standard App Store install, so you follow the iOS method currently shown on the download page.
What actually changes between them
- Installing: the app needs it, H5 doesn't.
- Updates: the app can show update prompts. H5 has none, because you're just opening a web page.
- Home screen: the app gets an icon automatically. H5 can be bookmarked or added to your home screen if you want one.
- Storage: the app uses space on your phone. H5 doesn't install anything.
What stays the same
The account. Whether you use H5 or the app, you're logging in to the same Winbox account with the same UID and password, so you can switch whenever you like. You don't need a second account for the other one, and making one won't help.
We haven't compared speed, battery use or features between them, so we won't tell you which one runs better. If that matters to you, try both for a day and see.
When H5 is the better pick
- You don't want another app on your phone.
- Your phone is short on storage.
- You're on a shared, borrowed or work device you don't want to install things on.
- You don't want to deal with update prompts.
- The Android install keeps failing and you just need to get in.
On a shared device, remember to log out when you finish. Closing the tab doesn't always do it for you.
When the app makes more sense
- You use Winbox from the same phone regularly.
- You like opening it from an icon rather than a bookmark.
- You're happy to keep it updated.
If you go this way, only install from the link on the download page, not from a file passed around in a chat group. And if the install gives you trouble, we wrote up what to do when the Winbox app won't install or open.
iPhone and iPad users
There's no APK for iOS, so you're choosing between the current iOS access method on the download page and H5 in Safari. That method can change, so rely on what the page shows today. If it's more hassle than it's worth, H5 is the simple route.
Starting from scratch? A simple order
- Sign up for Winbox in your browser. You don't need the app for this.
- Log in to Winbox through H5 to make sure everything works.
- Decide after a few days whether you actually want the app.
If sign-up gets stuck, see what to check when you can't sign up or get the code. And if you ever lose access, the guide to a forgotten password or UID covers it. For everything else on this site, start from the Winbox88 homepage.
Staying safe on either one
- Check the web address before you type your password, on H5 especially.
- Never share a verification code (OTP) with anyone.
- Don't reuse a password from another account.
- If what you see differs from this page, ask the platform's own support. This is an independent information site, not the operator.
